      The Universal Language of Pictures: A Critical Tool for Advancing Student Writing by Beth Olshansky provides a strong rationale for leading students to begin their writing projects with artwork. You can read my article about a few of her ideas, but we would love to see how you have incorporated this method into your own teaching.
      Post photos and descriptions and tell us how this idea worked (or didn’t) with your English learners. Did it seem their thinking or writing grew because they took the time to create a piece of art before writing?
